Turmeric is a widely used spice in superfoods due to its loads of health benefits. It is a memory booster, fights cancer and has antibiotic properties. Research has also unearthed one more health benefit of turmeric; it improves your cardiovascular health as much as regular physical exercises.

A study issued in the American Journal of Cardiology revealed that this popular spice lowers the chances of a heart attack by fifty-six percent. Another study that was published in the Nutrition Research Journal of the year 2012 stated that consuming this spice is effective as much as aerobic exercises aimed at improving the functions of the heart. It is suggested that a nip of turmeric has as much benefit to your body as jogging or brisk walking for an hour.

The health benefits of this spice can be attributed to curcumin, its primary polyphenol. Curcumin has active agents that perk up vascular functions especially in postmenopausal women.

How to Improve Heart Functions Using Turmeric

  • Take a teaspoon of turmeric on a daily basis for 8 weeks to improve the heart functions. Alternatively, you can use turmeric extract packed as capsules.
  • Add a pinch of turmeric to your meals, tea or just drink the juice to reap the benefits.

Study has shown that turmeric is good for your heart but you should never ditch exercising. Being physically active is good for your whole body.
