Home Remedies for Bronchitis or Chest Cold

Chest cold is brought about by a virus infection that starts as a common cold; this condition is usually referred to as bronchitis. It is triggered when phlegm and mucus from your cold end up in the lungs. This causes inflammation in the lungs due to the introduction of mucus.

Chest pains are common when suffering from a chest cold. You will also experience coughing, wheezing and excessive fever. When suffering from bronchitis, you may experience difficulties when swallowing food and even breathing. There are drugs that you can buy to fix this problem but before you do, try these home remedies:

Honey

This is one of the best natural remedies that you can get. If you are suffering from bronchitis, take some honey and it will sooth your throat and enhances your body’s defense mechanism. You can make a mixture of a pinch of black pepper, some clove powder, honey and ginger paste and eat it or just add some honey to your tea.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is a natural expectorant that repels mucus from your lungs. It also has high concentrates of vitamin C that strengthens your immune system.

Epsom Salt

Have you ever heard of Epsom salt bath? Well, it is good for you if you have bronchitis. Just add one and a half kilogram of the salt into your bath water and soak in it for 30 minutes before you go to bed. Do this twice a day and bronchitis will be no more.

Drink Milk with Turmeric

Turmeric is an antimicrobial and antiseptic and is, therefore, effective in reducing inflammation to the lungs. Using it with milk improves your immune system for fighting chest cold.

Thyme

This is an effective herb that removes mucus from your lungs. It also has antibacterial features. Add it to your tea or boiling water i.e. half a teaspoon to a cup of boiling water and leave it for 5 minutes. Add some honey to taste and drink.
