Habits That Are Bad for Your Kidneys

The kidneys play a very important role in our bodies by absorbing the minerals from the food that we consume, create hormones, filter impurities from the blood and produce urine. Although the body can work with just 20 percent kidneys, it’s better if we take care of them so that they can stay at 100 percent. But unfortunately, some of our daily habits are harmful to the kidneys. It’s better to name them so we can take the necessary steps to change:

Drinking Soda

Taking a soda can be refreshing and it also gives you that much needed energy boost. But did you know that drinking two or three glasses can be bad for your kidneys? Drinking too much soda damages your kidneys and this causes proteins to appear in your urine. The good thing is, this can be reversed by stopping taking soda.

Taking Too Much Salt

This is another habit that is bad for your kidneys and should be stopped. Foods that have high sodium raise your blood pressure and this will not be good for your kidneys. Replace salt with herbs and spices as they are much healthier and will add better taste to your food.

Sedentary Lifestyle

Sitting in front of your computer or TV the entire day is not healthy at all and is really bad for your kidneys. Too much sitting can cause kidney ailments such as kidney stones. Make a habit of taking short walks, swimming or bike riding. Being active will make you feel much better.

Skipping Sleep

If you are skipping sleep to do more work then you need to stop immediately. Kidney functions are controlled by your sleep and wake cycles.

Not Drinking Enough Water

Drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water every day does not just keep your hydrated; it helps your kidneys to do their work of flushing out toxins from your system allowing the body to work properly.
