8 Easy Ways to Quit Using Plastic

Is it possible to end the plastic menace? This is a question in the minds of people around the world. But one of the biggest steps that we can take as individuals to win this war is to cut our use of single-use or surplus disposable plastic items.

It is estimated that about 13 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year. We can prevent this from happening if we avoid using single-use plastics and this will make a significant difference.

If this trend continues, we will have more plastic than fish in the ocean (by weight). This data is well laid out in Dr. Chad Nelson’s Huffington Post article titled “A Plastic Smog is Smothering Our Oceans”. We get the following mind-boggling statistics from that article:

In the United States alone, 100 billion plastic bags are used every year. Statistically, every person in the US uses 360 bags every year.

500 million bags of plastic are thrown away every day.

In every 167 plastic bottles used by an American, only 38 percent are recycled.

Less than 5 percent of plastic bags are recycled.

What can you do to stop this? Well, you can start by using real stuff. These are reusable, non-plastic and bio organic items such as cloth, steel, glass and ceramic. These items are good to the environment as they can stop the plastic tide. The following are 8 suggestions that we have for you:

  • 1. Use reusable cutlery instead of plastic ones.
